People of all age groups are susceptible to loneliness, and initiatives must be implemented to alleviate this problem in Ireland, a social justice organisation has said.
The Loneliness Task Force, which was established in collaboration with the CEO of ALONE, Sean Moynihan, to coordinate a response to the epidemic of loneliness and social isolation, said that the goal of reducing unnecessary loneliness and isolation is a challenge but it is “achievable”.
The comments come following a report titled ‘A Connected Ireland’, which recommends that annual funding of €3 million be put towards combating loneliness and the problem be allocated to a specific Minister and Government department.
